Since Thomas Edison invented the first electric bulb, our nights have been completely transformed all over the world. Form every nook and corner to every street world over, lights lit the nights up and make them lively. We no longer fear darkness since we don’t hesitate to step out and travel farther.
We celebrate lights not just through light bulbs and candles but through fireworks in the sky. Light not only appears in our street lamps and house bulbs but in our smartphones and plethora of other gadgets. If we only had daylight forever then we wouldn’t have invented light for our long nights. We value light so much in our lives that we don’t mind even paying hefty bills for them.
The need for light arises only because there is darkness – the opposite of lightness. The same way, the need for success arises only because there is failure. The need for goodness arises only because there is evil in our society. The need for peace arises only because there is hatred in the world. The need for guilt arises only because we can harm. The need for warmth arises only because there is coldness in nature and the heart. The need for wealth arises only because there is poverty. The need for progress arises only because there is backwardness – no matter how forward we think we’ve come far.
What if there was no darkness, failure, evil, hatred, harm, coldness, poverty and backwardness? Then we probably wouldn’t need the opposites and without them, life would be much more pleasant and all we would experience is nothing but pleasure and joy.
The need for light only arises when there is darkness, if there was no darkness in our lives, minds and hearts, we would never require the need for enlightenment or betterment of our souls.
